1) Từ đời nhà Đinh, nhà Tiền Lê sang đầu nhà Lư, tuy Tàu không cai trị nước Đại Việt nhưng họ vẫn muốn xâm lược. Đến đời Tống Thần Tông, Vương An Thạch sai Lưu Gi chuẩn bị đánh Đại Việt. Lưu Gi cho đóng thuyền, rèn đúc gươm đao, huấn luyện binh lính để chờ ngày tràn qua biên giới.

1) Durant la dynastie des Đinh et la première dynastie des Lê jusqu'au début de la dynastie des Lư, la Chine n'occupait pas le Đại Việt mais en nourrissait toujours l'ambition. Quand vint le règne de Tống Thần Tông, Vương An Thạch donna à Lưu Gi l'ordre d'attaquer le pays Đại Việt. Lưu Gi fit construire des vaisseaux, forger des armes et entraîner des soldats pour préparer l'invasion.

1) Although Đại Việt had gained its independence since the time of the Đinh Dynasty and subsequently ruled by the pre-Lê and Lư Dynasties, China still wanted to conquer and rule Đại Việt. In the time of King Tống Thần Tông, Vương An Thạch appointed general Lưu Gi to prepare for the invasion of Đại Việt. Lưu Gi immediately ordered more warships to be built, more spears, knives and swords to be cast. On the other hand, Lưu Gi also recruited more soldiers and waited for the order to cross the Việt borders.
